Blas Piñar Guzmán

Partner

He has 20 years of experience as a litigation and arbitration lawyer. His practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation at all levels, as well as domestic and international arbitration.

Experience

Throughout his professional career, he has participated as counsel, arbitrator and tribunal assistant in domestic and international arbitrations administered by the main arbitration institutions (ICC, CAM, CEA, CIMA and CAS). He has also litigated before the Spanish courts in various matters and instances, including unfair competition in the commercial courts, cassation appeals in the Supreme Court and annulment of arbitration awards in the regional High Courts of Justice. He is also a mediator accredited by the Ministry of Justice of the Spanish Government and has participated in commercial mediations as a mediator and as a counsel.

His experience focuses on contractual and non-contractual disputes in various sectors, including technology, energy, construction, corporate, financial, food and pharmaceutical. He has been awarded by the Madrid Bar Association with the Sections Award (3rd ed.) in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section.

He has participated in the commissions for the study of the annulment of awards and on Spanish jurisprudence of the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club. He has more than twenty specialised publications in various journals and collaborative books. He is a lecturer in Private International Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Francisco de Vitoria University and regularly collaborates with other teaching institutions.

Prior to joining Belagua, he was a partner at Arias SLP. Previously he had his own professional practice and was an associate lawyer at Samaniego Law and Bird & Bird.

His usual working languages are Spanish and English, and he has knowledge of French.
